I can remember like it was only yesterday the first time I had the privilege of seeing a Zebra in the wild. We we’re traveling from the airstrip in Meru National Park to Elsa’s Kopje (our lodge for the next few days), a stunning place made famous by George and Joy Adamson together with Elsa the lion, star of the award-winning film Born Free. I know giraffes look seemingly ungainly and can often be the butt of bad jokes, but I’ve always thought of them as beautiful, majestic, and elegant creatures to observe. Giraffes are the world’s tallest mammals thanks to their towering legs and long necks, although hard to believe they can run at speeds of up to 35 mph over short distances. But personally, for me I can’t help but fall in love with their incredibly curious nature, mesmerising eyes, and eyelashes but above all they make me smile. This particular image was taken from pretty close proximity and on reflection I’d like to think she is smiling at me when in reality she’s just eating a few leaves from her favourite acacia trees.PricelistRead more

I wanted to show HM The Queen in portrait, a modern interpretation of the iconic image that appears on our stamps. Every year I would stand in a different place, at a different height and wait for the moment to arrive. I was determined to capture the image I had in my mind. And determination paid off. It was at the State Opening of Parliament in 2015 when she rode by in full regalia. I took a series of photographs and after she passed, I looked at what I captured. And there it was; I had it. It took me 12 years to take this one, single photograph. Upon landing on the small airstrip on Mustique several large coppers met us with strict instructions that we had better not go any closer, which we did. The Royal yacht was moored off Mustique. It had been used by the Queen and Prince Phillip for an extensive trip that included Australia and the South Pacific; the Mustique visit was its final stop. When the Queen came ashore there were just three of us and we were as close as I had ever been allowed before. The Royals, Her Majesty, her sister Princess Margaret and Prince Phillip who was holding an overnight bag which contained the food for a picnic that afternoon. Much has been made of Phillip's role and looking back and seeing him three steps behind his wife and her sister and carrying the goods needed for a pleasant afternoon made it look all rather like a normal family day out. That is, until you took a look at the Royal yacht moored out in the ocean". The Queen is there, on horseback until 1987, and the crowds who turn out are always interesting. I tried to get pictures which showed the humanity of it rather than its military precision..."
